2009 Renteria Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

2009 Renteria Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

This wine is ripe and juicy with good acid.  The Rowe Vineyard produces a much firmer wine with big, bold tannins.  The character of the Rowe Vineyard shines through with concentrated richness and an extracted structure, while the fruit from Stice Lane adds plush mouthfeel, and the French barrels add a hint of toasted oak.  500 Cases Produced

VINEYARD:            The Rowe Vineyard is planted on western hillside slopes, close to the town of Napa on Dry Creek Road.  This hillside vineyard produces fruit with lots of tannins that are big and bold.  The Stice Lane Vineyard, located in St. Helena is flat on the valley floor and made up of clay loam.

VINTAGE:              In 2009 Mother Nature managed to have it all work in unison to give vines and grapes the best scenario possible.  Compare the nearly thirty days of intense frost from spring 2008 to the fewer than five frost incidents in 2009, the start to the vintage was much less eventful for growers not worrying about the threat of frost—or the lack of water to combat it if it came. Late spring rains delayed irrigation needs and the warm spell in June helped curtail excessive canopy development. The 2009 growing season counted perhaps only four or five days of 100°f plus temperatures (typically 14 days), again helping to reduce demand for water when the resource was relatively scarce.  Though rainfall was little more than two-thirds of normal for the third year in a row, the timing of the precipitation was on the vine's side.  Couple that with the lack of frost and the mild, relatively cool growing season; vintage 2009 shaped up to be another beautiful vintage in the Napa Valley.

TASTING NOTES:   These two vineyards produce wines that are very different from each other, but work well as complementary wines in the blend. Drink now and enjoy!  Aging 8-10 years.
